Vinyasa and Jivamukti Yoga are flowing, dynamic styles of yoga that emphasize merging the breath and the movement. In a typical class, you will chant, sweat, meditate and revitalize.
The Jivan-mukti is one who has attained full enlightenment while still embodied. Jivamukti classes beautifully blend the forms of Vinyasa, Hatha, meditation and chanting.
Hatha Yoga focuses on the physical body through posture and breath, staying in poses for one to two minutes. Traditional asanas are used to stretch, strengthen and detoxify the body/mind. Its aim is to awaken the serpent power, create vitality and foster awakening.
Hatha Yoga - Katonah Style has been developed by Nevine Michaan. This approach combines an emphasis on alignment, clear mental imaging and the oceanic support of breath to discover how each pose blossoms like a flower. It provides a clear understanding of the mechanics of the body while encouraging an increased awareness of the Self. Novices as well as advanced students will benefit from discovering the power of each pose.
Chi Gung Yoga is a combination of traditional Chi Gung (Chinese energy cultivation) and Hatha Yoga to synergistically improve health, balance and vitality.
Pre-Natal Yoga is for any trimester, with your doctor’s permission. Our classes are taught by teachers certified in pre-natal yoga and are an excellent way to begin or maintain a practice during pregnancy. You will also stay fit, relaxed, prepare for labor and build community at the same time.
Parent/Baby Yoga Post-partum moms and babies 6 weeks to 18 months enjoy this opportunity for some yoga and a lot of fellowship. Babies can do some poses with Mom or Dad or sleep, nurse and play in the back of the room. You can bring your baby to this class and not worry about disturbing anyone.
Pilates Pilates-based exercises condition the whole body, but are particularly effective for developing the torso and abdominal muscles. They emphasize breathing, form and posture with the purpose of increasing flexibility, alignment, mobility, strength and an internal core support not found in other types of classes.
NIA is a creative, nonimpact aerobic workout that blends modern dance, martial arts and alignment techniques into a fun and invigorating class. P.S. The music is wonderful!
